Saturday, we traveled to St. Louis. The kids did great! Jada slept all but about twenty minutes and Garrin took a nap for about half the trip. When we arrived in St. Louis, we explored downtown by our hotel. Uncle Travis brought us pizza, Garrin swam, and then we discovered that trains traveled under the sidewalks of the city!
During the day, Uncle Travis was able to help Trishna with the kids so they could enjoy the sites of St. Louis. On Sunday, they visited the Wabash Frisco and Pacific Railroad. It is a miniature train on a 12 inch gauge track. It follows the Meramec River through the woods near Eureka, MO. It is only open on Sundays, so it was the perfect opportunity for Garrin to enjoy! That evening, we relaxed at Uncle Travis' with some authentic Mexican food. After dinner, Uncle Travis discovered that his backyard was a great place for an imaginary train ride!
Monday they braved the heat and visited the St. Louis Zoo. Garrin showed Jada the animals, the train, the carousel, and the children's zoo. The Safari Pass made for a day of fun in the sun! In the evening, we ventured onto the Metro to visit the riverfront. We took an hour sightseeing tour on the Tom Sawyer Riverboat. It was a fun way to see the skyline of St. Louis.
Trishna ventured out on Tuesday morning on her own. She promised Garrin they would ride the Metro while I attended my final workshop. They traveled into Illinois on the Metro and then came back to St. Louis Union Station before returning to the hotel. After my conference was finished, we were all able to venture to the Science Center. Garrin experienced his first iMAX movie--Steam Trains of the Canadian Rockies! He didn't last the entire movie, but he was able to see and hear steam trains up close.
It was a great trip! We had a great visit with Uncle Travis and wonderful family memories in St. Louis!
